Too much emphasis on one test
By DAN GELBER
As a parent of three kids in public schools and as a legislator who has been fighting overreliance on the FCAT for almost a decade, I know overemphasis of the FCAT is doing more damage than good.
... stop drinking the Kool-Aid. The sad truth is, Florida spends less than nearly any other state on public education, and it just burns me up when responsible opinion makers suggest all we have to do is raise the bar and schools will respond. It's really that easy? We can simply raise standards, pay teachers less, cut resources and kids will do better?
Florida's schools are struggling. So remember, the FCAT is not a solution, it's just a test.
