Rick Roach urges parents to “Rally in Tally”
posted by erikahobbs on February, 15 2010 12:53 PM
OCPS School Board member Rick Roach sent an email blast last week urging parents to turn out in droves for next month’s demonstration against school-funding cuts.
He — as well as others — are hoping to top last year’s massive turnout, which is widely credited for catching legislators’ ears. Many observers feel that cuts could have been far worse without the masses weighing in that they want education money protected — at any cost.
Roach writes:
It is vital to Orange County and Florida that our legislative delegation actually “sees” us in attendance there. There is a large gap in understanding what kind of quality education our children have to have in order to compete with other kids in the world. Last year was a very successful year for us with regards to sending a message. This year will be even more important.
I realize how busy you must be. There is much stress in all of our households these days. However, the future of our schools this year and next, hangs in the legislation’s hands. They represent YOU and our community. Let’s be clear with them that we need their actions to be bold with regards to doing the right thing for our kids.
