OCALA - The Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test is detrimental to children, according to a North Marion High intensive reading teacher.

Bob Stumpf, 61, a 38-year veteran teacher originally from Ohio who has been teaching in Marion County for several years, told the Marion County School Board Tuesday that the FCAT process is faulty and should be deemed invalid.

His comments came on the day FCAT testing began throughout the county for almost every grade in the school district. Most of the testing ended last week.

"I respectively request that I be excused from proctoring any such tests in the future," he said. "I will not stop trying to teach my students how to pass the abomination because I care too much for them. My success in working with my students in this area has been demonstrated."...
